Inspire Psychologists is an independent clinical psychology service providing evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation, and therapy with adults who may be experiencing a range of difficulties or mental health problems. These may include issues such stress, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and relationship difficulties, among others.

Emotional distress is a natural and understandable response to life’s challenges, however sometimes the way we feel can impact on our general wellbeing, everyday lives, and relationships. At these times, we may benefit from professional support in understanding and coping with our experiences.

My aim is to support you through the emotional distress you are experiencing by using psychological therapies that are proven to help you to overcome your difficulties.

About

Dr Katie Pownell, Clinical Psychologist
My name is Dr Katie Pownell; I am a HCPC Registered Consultant Clinical Psychologist and hold a Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) from Staffordshire & Keele Universities, as well as a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Huddersfield.

I have specialist experience of working with adults who are experiencing emotional distress or mental health difficulties that are impacting on their wellbeing. I currently work as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist in Urgent Care services in the NHS. As part of this role, I lead a team of psychologists and mental health practitioners in developing and delivering psychological input for patients and staff. My previous posts have been in NHS inpatient, rehabilitation, and community mental health settings.

I offer an empathic, compassionate, and professional clinical psychology service, and work with a range of emotional, psychological, and mental health difficulties. I aim to work collaboratively with you, and draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches in doing so.

Therapy

I am trained and experienced in a range of different modes of therapy, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing).

The basis of any therapeutic intervention is a comprehensive assessment which is used to build a formulation, or understanding, of your difficulties; this will inform the treatment to best suit your needs. You may already have an idea of the particular therapy you would like to explore, or you may not; either way, we will work in partnership towards achieving your goals.
